Farleys Visit

The following week we went on a class visit to a large and well known Prop House in East Acton that held a number of different kinds of props hired for film and tv that included a number of very well known shows such as Game of Thrones and The Crown. They were even hired by all the James Bond films and Gladiator among a few large scale productions that gave great attention to detail to the set dressing covered by the Art department.

I was inspired by the antique furniture pieces and the way everything was arranged to feel as though you had entered another time period in history.

There were a few moroccan inspired lanterns and ornamental lights that were a bit middle eastern which related to the space in my concept artwork and gave me good points of reference to start from.

The Medieval and Greek artifacts which were all original pieces from that decade were very grand in scale and held that opulence that I found in the set design of Stardust that gave an ancient feel to the viewer owing to the fact a large part of the film’s narrative dealt in witchcraft and dark magic.

A particular room in Farleys had a staircase going towards the top of a bookshelf against the wall that I felt elevated the existing room in a way that didn’t feel out of place and at the same time added a level of character which gave me ideas for my own concept artwork.
